- Kiki Deere, Destination expert
Set on a hillside in eleven hectares of olive groves and fruit orchards overlooking Lake Garda, the hotel is 2.5km from the town of Salò. The hotel is 140km from Milan Malpensa airport, while Bergamo Orio Al Serio airport is 65km away.
Style & character
The hotel is located in a former convent possibly dating as far back as the 13th century. Original fresco details are visible throughout the villa, both in the communal areas and in some of the rooms. Interiors are decorated with the owners’ collection of antiques and works of art dating from the 16th century to the present day, including beautiful grandfather clocks and marble statues.
Service & facilities
The hotel can organise sailing trips on Lake Garda, as well as motorboat trips to the area’s golf courses including Garda Golf, Arzaga Golf Club and Bogliaco Golf Club. The owners can also arrange vineyard tours. There is a 3km panoramic fitness trail starting at the hotel. There’s an inviting swimming pool with lovely lake views, a fitness area and Finnish sauna. Oriental massage and Ayurvedic treatments as well as shiatsu, yoga and Pilates classes are also available. The hotel is run by a friendly Finnish-Italian couple who go out of their way to make guests feel at home. Service is efficient, friendly and informal. Small pets are welcome.
- Room service
With only 18 rooms, the atmosphere is intimate and informal. Rooms are decorated in neutral colours, and have lake or garden views. Some rooms have original fresco details dating back to the 13th century, while others are embellished with works of art by Italian Postmodernist painter Mario Schifano. The marble bathrooms have glass shower enclosures and complimentary Erbario Toscano olive-oil toiletries.

Food & drink
The experienced chef prepares excellent seasonal dishes with a twist using fresh ingredients from the hotel’s vegetable and herb garden. I tried two varieties of homemade pasta dishes including coffee ravioli stuffed with shrimp, and a delectable strawberry and pea ice cream for dessert.
