In the Medina, in the village-like neighbourhood of Bab Doukkala, where you’ll find a vegetable market. From here it’s 15 minutes' walk south-east to the souks and the Djemaa el-Fna. Taxis congregate nearby just outside Bab Doukkala, one of the main gates to the Medina.
Style & character
The owners’ shared passion for fashion and antiques is evident throughout this large, light-filled riad in the luxurious velvet and silk covered furnishings, original Oriental carpets and fascinating antiques. The highly personalized style, discreet service and ample space give the house a very intimate feel. You could hide out here for days and barely see another guest.
Service & facilities
Faultless. Luca the manager is a tour de force booking excursions and restaurants, regaling guests with stories and ensuring everything runs seamlessly. The rest of the staff are equally charming and helpful without being obsequious. A few things set this place apart from the average riad: a grand, lushly planted courtyard garden with soaring palms and heavy-scented orange trees, a surprisingly large 10-metre lap pool, two handsome salons and a huge roof terrace with sunbeds and a curtain-draped gazebo. When not lounging by the pool, avail yourself of a hammam treatment and massage.

There are five huge suites, all with private balconies, except in the case of the ground-floor Ispahan suite, which has a terrace. A tour of them sends you on a round-the-world voyage, from the 19th-century Japanese décor of the Ispahan suite to the ornate Syrian style of the Damas suite and the Burmese and Chinese look of the Pondicherry apartment. The pick of the bunch are Pondicherry and Samarkand, the former with an ornate wooden cupola and the latter with a glorious domed bathroom and an antique, painted Zouak ceiling.
