Photographer and artist Peter Beard, known for his striking images of African wildlife, has hit the headlines after the revelation – made during an ongoing court case surrounding the ownership of three of his works – that his wife had him committed to a psychiatric ward after catching him in bed with two sex workers.

Back in 2013, Beard, who is 78 (and would have been 75 at the time of the alleged incident) came home with two Russian women, having met them on a night out in his New York City home.

According to the New York Post, he then passed out, leaving his wife Nejma and daughter Zara to "hustle" one of the women, who had refused to leave, out of the house.

In retaliation, the court was told, Nejma dialled 911, and explained to the operator that her husband was suicidal. Afterwards, Beard was taken to St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital.
