Former England footballer Paul Gascoigne reportedly suffered injuries when he confronted burglars at a neighbour's home.

Gascoigne, 49, saw a pair of intruders at a flat near his property in Poole, Dorset. When he tried to stop them one hit him in the face, causing him to fall and hurt his wrist, according to The Sun. The intruders left empty-handed.

After a short visit to hospital the former football player discharged himself, fearing leaving his flat uninhabited.

A source told the paper: “He was worried about his flat being empty so discharged himself out of hospital and went home pretty much straight away.

“He didn’t have to step in but he was real hero in doing so. But it really shook him up.”

Police said they were called to reports of a burglary in the early hours of last Monday, but no offences were found.

A spokesman for Dorset Police told The Sun: "We were called at 2.22am on Monday April 17 to reports of a burglary at an address in Poole.

"Police attended, however no offences were identified.”
