Katy Perry has insisted "no one's a victim or a villain" after her split from British actor Orlando Bloom as the pop star unveiled a dramatic new hairstyle.

The American singer, 32, posted a message on Twitter in which she appeared to address her break-up from Bloom after it was confirmed earlier this week.

Without naming the Pirates Of The Caribbean actor, Perry wrote: "How (about) a new way of thinking for 2017?

"(You) can still (be) friends and love (your) former partners!

"No one's a victim or a villain, get a life y'all!"

Perry's message came as she unveiled a dramatic new hairstyle, going from a long blonde bob to a shaved pixie cut.

The I Kissed a Girl singer documented the process in her first Snapchat video, showing celebrity hairstylist Chris McMillan giving her the short pixie cut.

The singer said "I wasn't ready until now" as McMillan delivered the finishing touches to the style.

Perry revealed that the inspiration behind her new look was Michelle Williams' latest hair do, although the cut resembled that sported by Miley Cyrus around 2013.

The singer and Bloom, 40, broke up after about a year together.

Representatives for Perry and Bloom released a statement on Wednesday saying the couple "are taking respectful, loving space at this time."

The couple had gone public with their relationship in January last year and spent Christmas visiting poorly children in hospital.

On Tuesday, Bloom posed with Perry's dog Nugget in an Instagram photo with the caption "a mighty heart".

Bloom has a son with supermodel ex-wife Miranda Kerr while Perry was previously married to British comedian Russell Brand.
