Ed Sheeran has revealed that he owns a zoo on his 16th-century Suffolk estate.

Speaking to the Sun, the 26-year-old singer-songwriter, whose new album ÷  (Divide) is currently number one in the charts, said that he owns a menagerie of cats, otters, hedgehogs, herons and barn owls. "It’s a cool environment to be in,” he added.

An Otter

But, as he prepares to embark on his first tour in two years, Sheeran is having to come to terms with one of his otters killing his koi fish.

Sheeran explained: "The otters are funny because I bought some koi fish. I spent a bit of money on these because I wanted to have some nice fish for my pond.

“This otter obviously has expensive taste and ate all of them. So we bought some more koi fish for the otter.

“Now this otter lives there and is just sitting there smoking a cigar, living the expensive life.”

On Monday, it was announced that Sheeran would guest star in the upcoming season of Game of Thrones.

The show's creators David Benioff and DB Weiss spilled the beans during the South By Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas.

Speaking at a panel discussion, Benioff and Weiss said they had been pursuing Sheeran for some time, as Game Of Thrones actress Maisie Williams was a fan.

"For years, we tried to get Ed Sheeran on the show to surprise Maisie, and this year we finally did it," Benioff said.

Though from the sounds of things, Sheeran's homicidal furry friend may be better suited to a part in the bloody epic.
