The Anchor Inn, Dorset
Many of our local pubs are owned by big breweries and are not renowned for great food – these places seem more preoccupied with two-for-one themed evenings than hiring decent chefs.
But The Anchor is a free-house that was saved from closure by a cooperative of villagers. Ales and ingredients are local and classics, such as Sunday roasts, burgers, or fish and chips, are always done well.
Among the daily specials you’ll find venison, trout, game and the excellent Piddle Valley chickens.
