TELEGRAPH PICK: The Old Neptune, Whitstable, Kent
It’s not much of a garden, in a sense: just a few picnic tables on the beach. And the beach, grey and pebbly and barbed with splintered oyster shells, may not be your idea of a perfect beach, unless the distant prospect of Shoeburyness fills your heart with exaltation.
But on a warm day, or even a slightly not-warm-enough one, with some local shellfish in your digestive tract and a beer in your hand, with the Isle of Sheppey brooding in the faltering day and the refinery at Canvey Island set aflame by the waning sun, this could be Paradise.
