In this Telegraph video series, food writer and 5:2 advocate Kate Harrison shares eight of her favourite low-calorie recipes to help you kick off a healthy 2017.

In the video above, Kate demonstrates how to make a mousse made with mashed avocado and cocoa powder, combined with blackberries - a simple dessert for only 89 calories per portion, this is an ideal way to satisfy a sweet tooth with minimal calories.

SERVES

2

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 small ripe avocado
  • 30g blackberries (or raspberries, or a mix of both)
  • 1 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder, or more to taste
  • ½ tsp agave or honey

METHOD

Cut a small ripe avocado in half, remove the stone and scoop the flesh into a mixing bowl.

Mash with a fork, then add the fruit and continue to mash together, keeping back two of the berries for a garnish.

Stir in the cocoa powder and agave or honey until well combined. You can also use more cocoa powder if you want a richer flavour.

Serve in ramekin dishes and garnish with the leftover berries.

Next week’s final episode will demonstrate how to make seared beef with rainbow stir fry, while in last week’s episode Kate shared her recipe for one-pan pork tenderloin with sage and roast vegetables.
