The first teaser trailer for Life on the Road, a spin-off feature film about David Brent, has been released.

Set 15 years on from events in Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant's award-winning BBC Two 'mockumentary' The Office, Life on the Road follows Brent as he attempts to launch a music career with his band Foregone Conclusion – while also working as a rep at the "Slough based cleaning products distributor" Lavichem.

In the trailer, which confirms that the film will be shot in the same 'mockumentary' style as the original series, we see Brent bounding into an office and singing one of his new songs to the receptionist. "It's about rock 'n' roll," Brent says. "But it's a metaphor... for sex."

Gervais, who has written and directed the project without Merchant, said: “I’m so excited that the world will see what David Brent is up to now and where his future lies.

“This film delves much more into his private life than The Office ever did and we really get to peel back the layers of this extraordinary, ordinary man.”

Life on the Road does not feature any other characters from the original series, though Doc Brown, who has appeared alongside Gervais in a number of other Brent spin-off projects, does star. Coldplay singer Chris Martin also features on the soundtrack.

Life on the Road is out in UK cinemas on August 19
